Jesus, The Way To Heaven

Both the Bible and experience remind us that death is certain.

"…it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment" (Hebrews 9:27 NASB).

The judgment takes place when Jesus returns.

"But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left" (Matthew 25:31-33 NASB).

These two groups have very different fates awaiting them:

The Fate Of The Wicked

The Bible warns…

"For the wages of sin is death..." (Romans 6:23 NASB).

The apostle Paul warns:

"Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience" (Ephesians 5:6 NASB).

Though it is true that all men will be raised from the dead, whoever is not found in the Lamb’s book of like will be cast into ‘The lake of fire’

"And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire" (Revelation 20:15 NASB).

In the previous verse, this is called “The second death” (Revelation 20:14).

All this will take place at Christ’s second coming when…

"…the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus…" (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 NASB).

Unfortunately, there will be many who take the broad road to destruction.

"…for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it" (Matthew 7:13 NASB).

The Fate Of The Godly

Man was created to walk with God in paradise (Genesis 2:7-9). When man lost his home in Eden through sin, God set in motion a plan of redemption by which he could be forgiven and enjoy a home that is even better than Eden.

The apostle John describes heaven as a place where…

"…God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away" (Revelation 21:2-4 NASB).

This is the paradise to which the King will call those on

On the last day, Jesus will say to the righteous…

"…'Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world" (Matthew 25:34 NASB).

The sad fact, though, is that few people will enter this heavenly paradise.

"For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it" (Matthew 7:14 NASB).

Jesus Is The Way

Those people who will enter the heavenly rest after judgment are those who die in Jesus, for He is The Way.

"And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, Write, 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!' Yes, says the Spirit, so that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow with them" (Revelation 14:13 NASB).

If we wish to be among those who die in the Lord, we must establish that relationship with Him while we live. This is not accomplished by merely calling Him “Lord”, but by obeying God’s will as revealed through Him. Jesus warns:

"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter" (Matthew 7:21 NASB).

The will of the Father is that we believe on His Son Jesus, repent of our sins, and be baptised for the remission of our sins. Thus we shall put on Christ.

"For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ" (Galatians 3:27 NASB).

Those who have put on Christ are those who are on their way to heaven.

What is preventing you being baptised for the forgiveness of your sins today?
